1 great tip to make camping better at Easter (or any time for that matter)
I try to keep in the loop with a whole lot of other camping sites, learning from them about things to do/not do when you're camping. Subsequently, I've signed up for blogs/newsletters about these things.
The most recent of these that I read had 6 tips supposedly related to camping at Easter. Three of these were about finding somewhere to camp (which, hopefully, you've done WELL before Easter because we all know how busy it is at that time of year) and one of the others was "Don't forget your chocolate". Really? That's a camping tip?
So, I got to thinking... What would I give as camping tips? Speaking as a campground owner and occasional camper, here is my one tip for a GREAT camping experience.
1. DON'T BE A DICK
There, I said it. It's my only tip but it's a pretty good one, and it's pretty universal. Let's explore this further with a few (let's call them) fictional scenarios I've just picked out of the air. ;)
Scenario 1: You arrive at your camping location and you want the best spot. No worries, don't we all. When you set up, be courteous and make sure you leave plenty of room for others to set up comfortably in the sites around you. #DontBeADick
Scenario 2: You are set up ready to enjoy your camping weekend and you decide you want a fire (and you've already checked that this is OK with owners, because you're not a dick). #DontBeADick and make sure that your fire is in a safe place, and won't blow smoke directly into other camp sites.
Scenario 3: It's late at night, you're enjoying a few quiet bevvies with your mates, except that it's not quiet, it's actually getting louder and rowdier and an alcohol fuelled mate is thinking it's a good idea to - uh, I don't know - chop down a tree. Duh! NO! Apply the one simple rule of camping (and life in general really) - DON'T BE A DICK! Stop that crazy arse friend of yours from doing something that could damage someone else's property, could injure them and could ruin camping at that spot for your whole group.
Scenario 4: After all the excitement, it's time to pack up. There's debris littered around the fire place and rubbish lying around. #DontBeADick - pick it all up, put it in a container of some sort and take it with you.
So, while some of these might seem obvious, and some might seem extreme, the common thread here is that if you act like a decent human being you'll generally have a pretty decent time of it.
Enjoy your Easter (and other) camping adventures, and remember if you're ever unsure what to do in any given situation, it's pretty simple: #DontBeADick.
See you soon!
